Environmental Indicators

Sustainability is often defined as "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (Brundtland). Healthy ecological systems are a crucial component in ensuring that we have a functioning sustainable society. These pages include information on environmental indicators at UC Santa Cruz.

The University of California Policy on Sustainable Practices provides motivation and direction in regards to our varied sustainability related programs. The policy, a directive from the University of California Office of the President, addresses several specific aspects of life on campus including Green Building Design, Clean Energy Standard, Climate Protection Practices, Sustainable Transportation Practices, Sustainable Operations, Recycling and Waste Management and Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Practices.
