My name is Malina and I am a Literature major with an interest in how race, class, and politics permeate our lives. I am also a minimalist with a passion for becoming more conscious about our impact on the environment. During my free time, I enjoy hiking, watching Youtube, and creating art. I was previously just a volunteer on the Campus Cleanup Committee working to help plan the Annual Campus Cleanup and I ended up interning for the Zero Waste Team the following quarter. This is my first year on the Zero Waste Team as a Zero Waste Team associate. I believe that providing awareness, education, and resources on the waste that is generated on campus and how we can reduce it is crucial to creating a sustainable environment. While learning more is good, how we use that knowledge and act matters even more when it comes to the livelihood of our planet. I love finding new ways to share ideas and to help produce an environment that is both beautiful and inclusive. Please do not hesitate to get in contact with me if you have questions or concerns!
Kristen is the newest addition to the Sustainability Office professional staff. She comes to UCSC from Florida and is very excited to join the Zero Waste Team to help campus reach our Zero Waste by 2020 goal! As the staff support to the Zero Waste Team, she will aid the awesome Zero Waste Team in achieving their efforts to reduce waste, encourage strong recycling behavior, and, ultimately, to positively shift UCSC’s culture away from trash!
I am Kelsee and I am a senior majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Last summer, I worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) with Pollution Prevention - specifically focusing on zero waste. I looked at the laboratory as a whole to research and brainstorm strategies to reduce waste. I also spent my time communicating with LANL employees to encourage green lifestyle choices. Zero waste efforts are necessary to reduce our consumption to sustain our environment for future generations to enjoy. Waste is a part of everything we do every day. As the Zero Waste Events Coordinator, I aid events towards source reduction and zero waste efforts. These events are small steps towards the UC goal of “Zero Waste by 2020.” With additional outreach, education, and initiative we will achieve this important goal. Reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
My name is Jeannie Santos and I am a senior majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Sustainability Studies. I recently joined the Zero Waste Team at the beginning of winter quarter. My main goal here as the #MyLastTrash Campaign intern is to help reach the UC Office of the President's goal of becoming zero waste by 2020. I am currently involved in the social media campaign and outreach, as well as communicating with other UC campuses about the ways that we can make our universities more sustainable and waste-free, planning events for the campaign, and be a part of the Campus Clean-Up committee. I am also a staff member at KZSC and work on two talk shows, one of them being, "This Just in From Outdoors," which covers local environmental news headlines and stories from the Monterey Bay. In my free time, I love to travel, go to the beach, go on awesome hikes, and pretty much anything involving being outside!
My name is Anuraag and I am a 4th year majoring in Environmental Studies. This is my first year on the Zero Waste Team and I am the Campus Clean Up Intern. Aside from working with the Zero Waste Team, I also am a contributing member on the Student Health Advisory Committee. During my free time, I enjoy hiking, watching movies, and taking photographs. My duties as a Campus Clean Up Intern include assisting in the organization and coordination of College Campus Cleanups and the 3rd Annual campus-wide Campus Cleanup. Some other things I do include running the twitter account for the Zero Waste Team and helping out with outreach. I think it is important for our campus to be aware about all the waste that we produce and to learn more about ways on how they can reduce that and live more sustainably. I look forward to working with the Zero Waste Team in reaching our goal to make this campus zero waste by 2020!
