Hello, UCSC Sustainable Slugs! You are invited to the 8th Annual Sustainability Inter-Organizational Retreat!
When: Friday, January 19 - Sunday, January 21
  • Friday night dinner
  • All day Saturday, January 20
  • Sunday, January 21 until noon

Program of speakers and workshops are being finalized. Please RSVP here.

Where: Friday night's events take place on campus. Saturday and Sunday will be at YMCA Camp Campbell, 16275 Highway 9, Boulder Creek, CA (20 miles from campus).

What: This retreat is a fun chance for you to take a weekend vacation to Camp Campbell where you can meet others that are working on sustainability and social justice projects on campus and collaborate! More than 100 UCSC students, staff, alumni, and faculty will spend the weekend sharing meals, learning leadership skills, participating in visioning activities around the past, present, and future of UCSC sustainability, making new friends, and strengthening existing relationships.

The theme of this year’s retreat is The Right To Survive: Sustainable Governance. In light of this administration’s infringement upon social and environmental justice and the tumultuous fight for civil rights across the country, we seek to inspire and equip students with tools to raise our voices and enact our visions as leaders. At this year’s retreat, we aim to address these issues with workshops on food security, the housing crisis, and the continued development of indigenous sacred sites. Sustainable economies can emerge only from sustainable social systems.

You and your organization are invited to attend, as well as help to design and co-create the retreat through hosting workshops, sharing your ideas with our planning team, or even joining our planning team!

Transportation: We will be organizing carpools and vanpools to Camp Campbell for Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon.
Cost: This event is funded by student fee Measure 45: all food, housing, and supplies will be provided!

If you would like to take part in the planning process, have any questions or want to learn more, please email Henry Xu.

Volunteering: If you are interested in joining the planning committee, volunteering, or attending the 2018 retreat, please contact Henry Xu ( or Genoa Faber (
