    -Student Sustainability Advisor Job #7056 (posted April 22nd 2022)

    The Sustainability Office is hiring Student Sustainability Advisors (SSAs), peer-to-peer educators who live and serve their residential communities through sustainability and social justice related programs, tabling events, and implementation projects! Come learn about and work on important UC Santa Cruz sustainability goals - and help us solve challenging problems like recycling, composting, climate change, and environmental injustice! We’re looking for students who can work independently and as a part of a team. The ideal candidates will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and a passion for sustainability. No previous sustainability experience is required. This position is open to students who cannot apply through the ER system.

    Compensation: Guaranteed Housing, $2,000 quarterly housing stipend

    All applicants must live on campus for the duration of their SSA position
    Time Commitment: 10 - 12 hours per week

    Start Date: September 2022
    End Date: June 2023

    Primary Job Duties

    Campus Sustainability Plan Project Implementation: 
    Choose, research, and implement a Campus Sustainability Plan one-year action with another SSA; engage and collaborate with on-campus stakeholders. 

    Support/Create/Participate in Community Events:
    Create sustainability-related programs each quarter in your college/unit; support move-in and move-out efforts; educate and familiarize residents with sustainable behaviors and campus sustainability goals; work with residential life staff, including RAs and the community Liaison to promote sustainability within your community. 

    Administrative/Professional Development:
    Participate in weekly team meetings; attend professional development training opportunities offered on campus and through the Sustainability Office; develop and execute a work plan; participate in Sustainability Office-sponsored events, such as student staff orientation, Inter-Org Retreat, California Higher Education Sustainability Conference, and other events as necessary; keep an updated time log of hours worked.

    - Green Labs Coordinator - Job#11174 - January, 2022
    The Green Labs Coordinator will support the Green Labs Team to further the goals of the UCSC Green Labs Program by evaluating labs for certification and recertifying existing labs. The associate will also assist in:

    • Investigating best national and UC Green Lab practices and researching new energy and water-efficient technologies. Previous knowledge of lab technologies is not necessary but thorough and patient research skills will be required.
    • Conducting outreach and educating labs on sustainable lab practices and Green Lab program opportunities through website development, creating newsletters, and spearheading innovative lab engagement initiatives. 

    Participating in weekly student staff meetings, quarterly Green Lab Team meetings, and other relevant Sustainability Office meetings to collaborate on projects and share resources.
