Sustainability & Social Justice Inter-Organizational Retreat 2020

January 02, 2020

The Sustainability & Social Justice Inter-Organizational Retreat

More than 100 UCSC students, staff, and alumni, will spend the weekend sharing meals, learning leadership skills, participating in visioning activities around the past, present, and future of UCSC sustainability, making new friends, and strengthening existing relationships. We invite guest speakers to present on sustainability and social justice issues. Students lead workshops about projects on campus with opportunities to collaborate! We hope you'll join us.

Theme:  Power of Community: Stories, Activism, and Honoring Our Earth’s Warriors
This year's theme will recognize low income communities, indigenous tribes, and other groups that are on the front lines demonstrating leadership and moral authority to protect the earth. Students will explore root causes of these injustices, such as prioritizing profit over people and see how environmental justice community leaders are responding to hypercapitalism. At this year’s retreat, we aim to address interconnected issues such as food and housing security, health justice, and the acknowledgement and preservation of indigenous sites. We seek to inspire and equip students with the tools needed to foster conversations, and become allies and leaders. We will highlight a theory of change that centers grassroots organizing and community activism.

When: Inter-Org Retreat will take place Friday, January 24 through Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Where: Friday night's event will be at UCSC. Saturday and Sunday will be at YMCA Camp Campbell, 16275 Highway 9, Boulder Creek, CA (20 miles from campus).

RSVP is now closed.
